A Chaplain's Role in Providing Valuable Support to Students
"As part of my role, I get the privilege of talking and checking in on students that may need a bit of extra support. Most of the time, it's a space where they get to offload or talk through something that's been happening, and sometimes it's a space that allows them to talk about anything and just be listened to. I think the students find this space very valuable, and I find that it is a wonderful opportunity for me to speak truth and encourage them as they navigate tricky and complex situations in their life.
I was very fortunate to receive a note from a year 6 student the other week who encouraged me greatly with her kind and generous words:
"To Jess, Thank you for giving me advice when I'm having a hard time. You are a joy to be around, and you motivate me to do my best. Thank you for being here; you are important."
